What is Firewall Protection? Firewall Protection is software installed on your computer that prevents unauthorized access from outside users. Why would an outside user try to access my computer? Some "hackers" may attempt to capture personal information including banking data for fraudulent use. They also scan address books to secure a list of email addresses for spamming purposes. In addition, some more sophisticated efforts include "hijacking" your computer and connecting to the web under your identity. Thus, your connection could be used to distribute SPAM, viruses or other Internet annoyances. Do I really need Firewall Protection? If you use your computer for business, or store any personal data on the computer you use to connect to the Internet, it is highly recommended. It is never a bad idea to have additional protection on your computer. However, it is certainly not required for low risk users. Will the use of a firewall affect my Efanz connection? It shouldn’t. At the initial set-up of Efanz, or the installation of a firewall software, you may need to adjust your settings or click on a pop-up box to allow the Efanz connection. If you find that the Efanz accelerator is not being activated, chances are you need to change some settings in the firewall to allow our High Speed Dial-Up Software to work correctly. If you experience this issue, contact technical support for assistance. Where do I get Firewall Software? Software, such as Norton Internet Security incorporates anti-virus and firewall protection into one software system. This software is available at most retail outlets or online by visiting www.symantec.com.
